Antoine Semenyo has joined the ranks of Manchester City in a record-setting transfer valued at approximately â¬79 million. This move represents a historic sale for Bournemouth, finalized without activating Semenyo’s release clause. The deal comprises â¬58.7 million guaranteed, payable over two years, with possible bonus incentives.
Expressing enthusiasm about his new chapter, Semenyo stated, “I feel proud to join Manchester City, a club renowned for its high standards and world-class players.” He committed to a five-and-a-half-year contract concluding June 2031 and will don the number 42, previously worn by Yaya Touré.
Before his departure, Semenyo demonstrated impressive form at Bournemouth, netting ten goals and delivering three assists across 20 league matches. His on-field success has positioned him as a valuable asset to Manchester City as they strive for more titles.
Semenyo’s rise to the Premier League has been notable. After beginning in the Championship, he moved to Bournemouth in January 2023 for around â¬12.2 million. Over his tenure, he scored 32 goals and provided 13 assists in 110 appearances, highlighting his development.
Throughout his career, Semenyo has attributed his success to his faith and guidance from his mentor, Dave Hockaday, who bolstered his skills and confidence, guiding him from early challenges to becoming a Premier League standout.
With Semenyo’s arrival, Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb may face an uncertain future. Borussia Dortmund showed interest in acquiring Bobb on loan, but financial hurdles have impeded progress. The overall costs associated with the transfer and salary are deemed excessive by Dortmund, putting the move in jeopardy.
