The controversy began due to a sponsorship contract signed in 2022 worth â¬20 million over five years. This deal made INEOS Grenadier the “official 4Ã4 partner” of Tottenham. However, Tottenham ended the contract abruptly in March, citing unpaid annual fees amounting to â¬6.3 million, along with other amounts adjusted for inflation. The club took legal action in June.
Tottenham demanded more than â¬6 million in damages following the termination of the partnership, which still had over two years remaining. INEOS responded with a counterclaim seeking more than â¬1.2 million, alleging that Tottenham negotiated with Audi about a potential transfer of star player Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.
The relationship between INEOS and Tottenham began when INEOS provided hand sanitizer to the club during the COVID-19 pandemic. Legal proceedings were launched soon after Tottenham celebrated a significant Europa League victory against Ratcliffe-owned Manchester United.
Since the settlement, Tottenham has been on a commendable run in the Champions League, remaining undefeated in four games, including a 4-0 triumph over København. The team is set to meet Manchester United on home ground this Saturday, hoping to maintain their winning streak.
