Hannibal Mejbri, a promising player for Burnley, has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association (FA). The charge stems from an alleged incident where Mejbri spat toward fans of Leeds United during a high-stakes Premier League clash on October 18, 2025.
The young midfielder, who is 22, made his entry into the game as a substitute during the 83rd minute. However, the controversial event is said to have occurred during his warm-up session, roughly 16 minutes before stepping on the field. The match was held at Burnley’s home ground, Turf Moor, where they clinched a crisp 2-0 victory against their rivals, Leeds United.
This misconduct claim was spotlighted following a complaint from a Leeds fan present in the visiting section. In response, the Lancashire Police initiated a probe into the events. The FA has asserted that Mejbri’s alleged actions were inappropriate, detailing accusations of improper conduct and abusive behavior involving spitting in the direction of Leeds supporters around the 67th minute.
Hannibal Mejbri is expected to address these charges by Friday, November 28. Concurrently, he has traveled to join the Tunisian national team for a series of friendly matches against Mauritania, Jordan, and Brazil. It is pertinent to note that Tunisia, known as the Eagles of Carthage, has qualified for the upcoming World Cup, following a successful streak of three consecutive qualifications. While the incident may spell trouble for his club commitments, his contribution to Burnley has been modest this season, notching up one assist across ten league appearances.
