Joe Lewis, at 88 years old, was found guilty of several counts of securities-related charges. After pleading guilty, he faced a fine of â¬4.6 million and was sentenced to three years of probation, avoiding any prison time.
The pardon means Lewis can now return to the United States, where a significant part of his family resides in Florida. While the pardon offers him personal relief, he has decided not to resume his role at Tottenham Hotspur.
Widely recognized for his financial acumen, Lewis has been a prominent figure in the UK’s business landscape. By 2025, his wealth was estimated at about â¬7 billion. His business judgment led him to acquire a controlling interest in Tottenham back in 2001.
Although Lewis is stepping aside, his family continues to play an active role in managing Tottenham Hotspur. His immediate family, including his daughter, son, and grandson-in-law, are heavily involved. Currently, Peter Charrington holds the position of non-executive chairman, while Vinai Venkatesham serves as the chief executive.
